The
Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt today voided the election of
Bayelsa State Governor, Timipere Sylva. The court overturned the
decision of the State’s Election Petition Tribunal which earlier
affirmed Sylva’s election.
Justice S. A. Ibiyeye of the Appeal Court, who read the judgement ruled that there was no election in the state on April 14.Action
Congress candidate for governor in the April 14, 2008 governorship
election in Bayelsa had gone to the Election Tribunal to challenge the
declaration of Timi Sylva as the winner of the election.
ELECTION Petition Tribunal in Akure, Ondo State, on Wednesday ordered the recount of the used and unused ballot papers for the April 14, 2007 governorship election in the state.This followed the application of counsel for the petitioner, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), that the tribunal should order the recount of the papers that were used in the areas being contested.It was at the resumed hearing of the petition filed by the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, against the victory of Governor Olusegun Agagu at the election.
