Nigeria Labour Congress yesterday declared that it was not prepared to accept any attempt by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), especially the elements of Obasanjo model of politics within President Musa Yar’ Adua’s government to sabotage the mandate the people of Edo State gave to Adams Oshiomhole, its immediate past president.Labour said that such an attempt would portend danger for the country and appealed to President Yar’Adua to checkmate it.

ALHAJI Murtala Nyako was returned yesterday as governor of Adamawa State having won Saturday’s governorship re-run election.He got 361,729 votes against the 201,767 polled by his closest rival, Alhaji Ibrahim Bapetel of the Action Congress (AC).Alhaji Nyako won in each of the 21 local government areas of the state.The AC in its immediate reaction dismissed the re-run election as yet another “big farce with the result sold to the highest bidder.”The result was announced by Dr Abdul Bulama, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner.

The Appeal Court sack of Gov. Timi Sylva of Bayelsa State has thrown the State into confusion. Following the sack of Gov. Sylva, the Speaker of the Bayelsa House of Assembly was ordered to be sworn in acting governor by the Appeal Court. However, shortly after that Order was made by the Appeal Court, the state lost its House of Assembly Speaker. The Speaker, Werinipre Seibarugu and his Deputy, Nestor Binabo, were impeached by the State Lawmakers for “corruption, forgery, recklessness and flagrant disregard for the rule of law.”

The Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt today voided the election of Bayelsa State Governor, Timipere Sylva. The court overturned the decision of the State’s Election Petition Tribunal which earlier affirmed Sylva’s election.
Justice S. A. Ibiyeye of the Appeal Court, who read the judgement ruled that there was no election in the state on April 14.Action Congress candidate for governor in the April 14, 2008 governorship election in Bayelsa had gone to the Election Tribunal to challenge the declaration of Timi Sylva as the winner of the election.
